The Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art is an APS-C standard zoom lens for Sony E-mount cameras. It provides a constant F1.8 aperture throughout the zoom range.
The lens uses 17 elements in 11 groups. In addition, the optical design includes four SLD elements and four aspherical elements. Sigma also designed the lens to reduce flare and ghosting.
Autofocus uses Sigma’s HLA high-response linear actuator. Therefore, the lens provides fast and quiet focusing. It also uses an inner zoom design that keeps the lens length stable during zooming.
The lens supports video recording with minimal focus breathing. Moreover, the iris ring includes a click switch for smooth aperture control during video shooting.
The minimum focusing distance is 28cm. Its maximum magnification ratio reaches 1:4.8 at 40mm. Furthermore, the lens uses an 11-blade rounded diaphragm.
The lens has a 67mm filter thread. The Sony E-mount version measures approximately 72.9mm in diameter and 117.9mm in length. Meanwhile, it weighs approximately 525g.
The lens uses an APS-C design and provides a 79.7° to 39.1° angle of view on Sony E-mount cameras. It also provides an F16 minimum aperture.
